This guide shows you step-by-step how to remove the old Numatic DL2 motor and fit the compatible Qualtex MTR263 / Paxanpax 42-MT-263 replacement, suitable for Henry HVR200A, Hetty HET200A and other Numatic models with the DL2 code.
What You’ll Need
-
Compatible Henry motor (Qualtex MTR263 / Paxanpax 42-MT-263)
-
Cross-headed screwdriver
-
Long-nose pliers
-
Crimping tool (optional)
-
Piggyback connector (included with motors from HenryBags.co.uk)
Step 1: Safety First
Unplug your Henry from the mains. Remove his hat and undo all seven screws on the underside using a cross-headed screwdriver.
Lift off the outer shell and remove the cable rewind unit, setting it aside safely.
Step 2: Disconnect the Switch Wires
Inside Henry’s hat you’ll see the switch cover — gently pry it off with a screwdriver.
Locate the white wire running to the high/low switch and remove it using long-nose pliers. Then disconnect the brown wire attached to it.
Leave the remaining two wires in place for now — we’ll come back to them shortly.
Step 3: Separate the Top and Base
Gently work your way around the hat to separate it from the base.
Flip it over and lift off the bottom housing — it should come away easily. Inside you’ll see the motor, circuit board, and the noise reduction filter (a felt pad around the motor).
Remove the white wire from the circuit board, then take off the rubber ring around the base of the motor — we’ll reuse this on the new one.
Step 4: Remove the Old Motor
Lift the motor out carefully. Take off the top cover (plastic cap) sitting on the motor — again, keep this for re-use.
Disconnect the two power wires from the motor terminals. They can be tight, so use pliers if needed.
Remove any remaining white wires from the vacuum completely — the new motor comes with pre-wired leads and connectors.
Step 5: Prepare the New Motor (DL21104 / MTR263)
Your new motor already includes attached wires, but you’ll need to fit one piggyback connector if your Henry has the illuminated high/low switch.
Cut the old connector off, strip a small amount of insulation, and crimp the piggyback connector onto the wire.
(Note: HenryBags.co.uk motors include this connector — cheaper eBay motors may not.)
Step 6: Fit the New Motor
Place the plastic top cover back onto the new motor, aligning the circular shapes.
Lower the motor into the housing, ensuring it sits flush — if it’s not positioned correctly, you’ll notice a visible gap in the casing.
Thread the single-connector white wire through one side and reconnect it to the circuit board where the old one came from.
Thread the double-connector wire through the opposite side and attach it to the high/low switch.
Reconnect the brown wire to the same switch terminal as before.
Step 7: Reassemble Henry
Make sure all wires are tucked neatly into their channels — especially around the motor, where there are two dedicated slots to prevent trapping.
Refit the felt filter around the motor, followed by the grill section, then the rubber ring.
Secure everything with the three inner screws.
Flip Henry’s hat over, replace the switch cover, and ensure the cable rewind wheels are still correctly positioned.
Feed the power cable through its slot, then lower the outer shell back on top, making sure there are no gaps where the cable enters.
Finally, screw down the four outer screws to finish the assembly.
Step 8: Final Checks
Once everything is secure, pop Henry’s hat back on, plug him in, and give him a test run.
You should now have full suction and smooth running once again!
