If your Henry Hoover with a high/low switch has stopped working, the fault may lie with the circuit board. By bypassing it, you can often bring your Henry back to life. In this guide, I’ll show you how to do the bypass — and how to finish the job neatly by installing an LED power light, just like on newer models.
Before You Begin
⚠️ If your Henry has lost power but doesn’t have a high/low switch, or you’re not sure what’s causing the fault, check out my Henry power loss diagnosis guide.
Step 1: Remove the Circuit Board
-
Undo all screws underneath Henry and open up the casing.
-
Remove the circuit board, the high/low switch, and all connected wires.
-
You should now be left with:
-
Blue and brown wires (bringing power in)
-
Two white wires (from the motor)
-
Step 2: Connect the Power Directly
-
Attach the two white motor wires to one side of the power switch.
-
Attach the blue and brown power wires to the other side.
✅ That’s the bypass complete. If the circuit board was the fault, your Henry should now power on. Note that your vacuum will now run on full power all the time.
Step 3: Fill the Gap – Install an LED Power Light
On newer Henry models, the high/low switch position is replaced by a power indicator LED. Installing one makes your repair look tidy and adds a useful feature.
-
Take two spare wires from the old circuit board.
-
Cut off the ends and crimp on the supplied piggyback connectors (pliers work fine if you don’t own a crimper).
-
Reconnect the power switch to the motor as in Step 2.
-
Attach the wires with piggyback connectors to the LED unit.
-
Connect the incoming power to those same connectors.
Step 4: Test Your Repair
Now your Henry should:
-
Run reliably on full power.
-
Show a mains indicator light when plugged in.
-
Have a simple on/off switch without the faulty circuit board.
Final Thoughts
This repair makes your Henry simpler and more reliable by removing the weak point of the high/low switch circuit board. The LED power light is an easy add-on that finishes the job neatly.
