How to Use a Henry Hoover (EASY Step-by-Step Guide)

Just bought a Henry Hoover and not sure where to start? This easy step-by-step guide shows you how to set him up, what each tool does, and how to change the bag — everything you need to get your new Henry up and running in minutes.

This simple guide walks you through how to assemble Henry, what each tool does, and how to change the bag when it’s full.

Perfect for first-time Henry owners

How to Assemble Your Henry Hoover

Start by taking out the hose and screwing it onto Henry’s nose at the front.
Then connect the two straight metal tubes, followed by the bent one on top — this connects to your hose.
Push-fit the floor tool onto the end, and your basic setup is complete.

💡 Every new Henry comes with a bag already fitted, so he’s ready to use straight out of the box.

How to Use the Henry Floor Tool

Henry’s main floor tool has two settings:

  • Brushes up – for carpets

  • Brushes down – for hard floors

Switch between them using the small foot pedal on the top of the tool. It’s simple but effective!

Henry Hoover Tools Explained

Inside the box you’ll also find a small tool kit:

  • Crevice tool – perfect for corners, skirting edges, and car interiors

  • Round dusting brush – great for shelves and delicate surfaces

  • Stair and upholstery tool – ideal for sofas and stairs

  • Brush insert – clips onto the upholstery tool for vacuuming things like curtains

These tools fit onto the end of your metal pipe, but you’ll also find a short black adapter that lets you attach them directly to the hose.
On the back of Henry, there’s a holder for two small tools and a clip to store away the floor head neatly.

Using Henry Hoover for the First Time

Pull Henry’s cord out of the top of his hat before switching on.
⚠️ Don’t turn the rewind on top yet — that’s only for rewinding the cable later.
Once plugged in, you’ll see the small power light come on, showing he’s ready to go.

Henry now only has one speed setting, but if the suction feels too strong, turn the air valve on the pipe towards the “–” symbol to reduce it by about 25%.
This makes it easier to push on thicker carpets.

When to Change Henry Hoover Bag

If suction drops or Henry sounds strained, the bag might be full.

  1. Unclip the two side clips and lift off Henry’s hat.

  2. Remove the filter.

  3. Check the bag — if it’s full, it’s time to change it.

  4. Remove the old one and close the flap over the opening to stop dust escaping.

  5. Fit the new bag with the writing facing up, pushing the rubber collar firmly over the plastic ridge until it’s sealed.

  6. Replace the filter and put Henry’s hat back on, securing the two side clips.
